Finishing touches
Placement diagram — exact positions will vary; this is a guide.
You'll also need
- Wooden or shell button, 15-20mm — 1 (Any natural-finish button that contrasts with the body color. Avoid plastic — wood and shell read "handcrafted.")
- Matching sewing thread or split yarn strand — small amount
- Tapestry needle (size 16-18) for sewing the button and decorations — 1
Decorations
- Make 3 × simple-flower-dc — See the motif pattern →Scatter the 3 flowers across the front face in an asymmetric cluster — one lower-left, one center-right, one upper-right. Eyeball the placement before sewing; pin them in place with stitch markers and check the look from arm's length first.
Closure
- 18mm wooden button — gives a natural finish that matches the textured fabricSew the button to the front face about 2cm below the top rim, centered horizontally. On the inside of the back face (top center), chain 12 and slip-stitch back to the base to form a button loop. Slip-stitch once around the loop for stability. Test the loop fits over the button before securing — adjust the chain count if needed.
Steps
- Make 3 small flowers using the simple-flower-dc motif (any contrasting color — Cream or Buff reads well against Sage). Each flower takes ~10 minutes.
- Pin the flowers to the front face in the placement shown in the mockup. Whip-stitch each flower to the front face ONLY — don't pierce through the back, or you'll sew the bag closed.
- Attach the button + work the button loop as described in the closure instructions. Weave in all tails on the inside of the bag, then turn right side out.
