What you'll learn
Slip KnotThe starting loop on your hook — every project begins here.
Chain Stitch (ch)The foundation row. Yarn over, pull through the loop.
Single Crochet (SC)The most basic working stitch. Insert hook, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through both.
Turning Your WorkAt the end of each row, chain 1, flip your work, and crochet back the other way.
Counting StitchesEach SC creates one V-shape on top. Count the Vs to make sure you have the right number.
What you'll need
- Any worsted weight (#4) yarn — light colors are easiest to see your stitches
- 5.0mm (US H/8)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- ~3" × 3" (8cm × 8cm)
