Flower motif
Edelweiss Flower
A 3D crochet edelweiss worked in one piece: a silver-grey base disc with seven short and seven long pointed bracts layered front-loop over back-loop, a golden picot core, and five popcorn clusters at the centre. Five charted parts, each with its own stitch key.

Materials
- Gray (A): 1 skein (10.5 yd, 10 m)
- Orange (B): 1 skein (0.6 yd, 1 m)
Total yardage: 11.1 yd
Gauge
Gauge is not critical. Work firmly so the popcorns and picot core stay dense; the sample measures about 9 cm across in DK cotton.
Notes
Worked in one continuous piece — no sewing. The base disc reserves its front and back loops on Rounds 1, 3 and 4 so the golden core, the popcorns, and the two bract layers each grow from their own reserved loops.
You Will Make
Base disc
- Rnd 1:1 sc in ring × 5
- Rnd 2:1 sc in next st × 5
- Rnd 3:[1 sc in next st, 1 sc in same st] × 5
- Rnd 4:[1 sc in next st, 1 sc in next st, 1 sc in same st] × 5. Sl st to join
Golden core
- Rnd 1:Working into the base Round 1 back loops: sl st in the first sc, then *picot (ch 3, sl st in first ch), sl st in the next sc* around — 5 picots. Sl st to the first, fasten off and cut.
Popcorn cluster
- Rnd 1:Working into the base Round 3 back loops: *popcorn in the next st, ch 2, skip 1 st* around — 5 popcorns. Join.
Short inner bracts
- Rnd 1:Work 7 leaves, one on each spine. For each: ch 9; from the 2nd ch from the hook work back along the chain — 2 sl st, 2 sc, 2 hdc, 2 dc — then skip 1, sl st, sl st to the next.
Long outer bracts
- Rnd 1:Work 7 leaves, one on each spine. For each: ch 13; from the 2nd ch from the hook work back along the chain — 3 sl st, 3 sc, 3 hdc, 3 dc — then skip 1, sl st, sl st to the next.
Assembly Layout
How the layers stack: golden core + popcorns at the centre; short bracts on top (front loops); long bracts beneath (back loops), offset.
Assembly
The edelweiss is one continuous piece — each layer is crocheted into the loops left free on the base disc, not sewn.
1. Make the base disc (Rounds 1–4), reserving the back loops of Rounds 1 and 3 and both loops of Round 4.
2. Work the golden core into the base Round 1 back loops.
3. Work the popcorn cluster into the base Round 3 back loops.
4. Work the short inner bracts into the base Round 4 FRONT loops (they tilt up, on top).
5. Work the long outer bracts into the base Round 4 BACK loops (they tilt down, underneath, offset between the short ones).
