CrochetPop is built to need as little of your data as possible. Most of what you make — designs, charts, and your progress — stays in your browser and never reaches our servers. This page explains the few things we do collect, and why. Plain English, no dark patterns.
What we collect
- Your email — only if you enter it in a subscribe form. We store your email address and the date you subscribed, nothing more.
- A pet photo — only if you use Pet Portrait and choose to upload one. It is used for AI analysis and is not saved by us (see below).
- Anything you email us — your message and email address reach our team when you write to [email protected].
- Anonymous usage data — standard analytics about which pages are visited, so we can improve the site.
Pet photos and AI
When you use Pet Portrait, the photo you upload is sent to Google's Gemini AI to identify the breed and colours. CrochetPop does not store your photo — we pass it to Google, receive the analysis, and keep only the resulting pattern suggestion. Google processes the image under its own API terms. If you'd rather not share a photo, you can design a pattern manually instead.
If you subscribe, we use your email only to send occasional updates about new patterns and features. We never sell or share it. You can unsubscribe at any time, or ask us to delete your address.
Analytics and infrastructure
We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate usage — pages viewed, rough location, device type — via cookies. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes request data such as IP addresses to keep it fast and secure. Both are standard providers acting on our behalf.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your personal data — ever.
- We don't store the photos you upload.
- We don't require an account. Your designs and progress live in your browser's local storage unless you choose to share them.
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any email; skip Pet Portrait if you'd rather not upload a photo; and clear your browser's local storage to remove saved designs and progress. To request deletion of your email or ask a data question, email us at [email protected].
Changes
We may update this policy as the site grows. Meaningful changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date at the top.
