Yarn calculator FAQ

How accurate is this yarn calculator?
The estimates use a relaxed single-crochet blanket gauge for each yarn weight (worsted: about 12โ€“13 stitches ร— 15 rows per 4 inches). Your actual yardage depends on your personal tension and stitch type. Always buy one extra skein to be safe.
Which yarn weight should I use for a blanket?
Worsted weight (#4) is the most common choice for blankets โ€” widely available, quick to work, and forgiving on gauge. DK (#3) gives more stitch definition and a lighter drape. Bulky (#5) works up fastest and is ideal for large throws.
Why does the calculator show more skeins than I expected?
The skein count uses conservative skein yardage โ€” a Worsted skein is calculated at 200 yards, Bulky at 130 yards, matching common brand sizes. If your yarn is sold in larger skeins, divide the total yards by your skein's label yardage for the exact count.
